Pivotal Response Treatment is a naturalistic intervention model derived from ABA approaches. Rather than target individual behaviors one at a time, PRT targets pivotal areas of a child's development, such as motivation, responsivity to multiple cues, self-management, and social initiations. Under the leadership of Past-President David Tolin, Division 12 ratified a motion to update the way in which empirically supported treatments are evaluated, in part to bridge the gap between the Chambless criteria, developed 20 years earlier, and the development of evidence-based treatment guidelines underway by the APA.
